The small town of El Calafate, is located on the shores of Lago Argentino. From there you can visit, the Perito Moreno Glacier and the Fitz Roy Massif area. The Perito Moreno is a spectacular 4 mile wide Glacier which slowly runs like a frozen river. Hear it rumble and crack as huge chunks fall off into the Iceberg Channel. It is a stable Glacier, which "wastes" as much as it is "fed". From the little mountain village of El Chaltén trekers follow the trails to the base of the impressive Fitz Roy (Chaltén for the tehuelche indians) and the sharp Cerro Torrre. Meca for intrepid climbers from all over the world.
